CamGirl for PACT Salon: Desire Lines 2018, curated by Maeve Parker and Sebastian Henry-Jones, was a performance work collaboratively produced by myself, the audience, the professional and technical workers on site, various camera and digital technologies, as well as many other unknown contributors. The work happened both in the theatre space and online, via the broadcast platform Periscope. Dressed as a gynoid, I had a GoPro strapped to my chest, my phone camera on a selfie-stick in hand, and a Canon Legria on a tripod nearby. My phone camera was broadcasting to Periscope, while this broadcast was being displayed both on my laptop on the floor of the stage, and on a projection screen mounted behind me. The audience present in the theatre space could observe my actions and my interactions with the Periscope audience online.
The work attempted to inquire into the relationships that collectivity produce our subjectivities, with a specific focus on the agencies of digital camera technologies, online social spaces, audiences, and human bodies. By positioning myself in relation to these agents, I attempted to draw attention to the dynamics of production of the many and complex selves we inhabit.
